Kaitlin's 6 month stats

Our sweet Kaitlin turned 6 months old last month. She is such a happy baby. She has the biggest smile, loves to jump in her jumper and crawls around so fast it's hard to catch her. We can't believe she half way to a year old already. Here are her stats from her 6th month check-up:

Height: 25 3/4 in (50%)
Weight: 15lbs 3oz (25%)
Head: 16in (25%)

She wasn't so proportionate at her last appointment...she was in the 75% for Height, but her head was only in the 10%. She probably looked a little goofy, but I didn't notice!

My baby is already 4 1/2 months old. She is such a sweetheart. She talks, laughs, rolls over, grabs things and loves loves loves attention and smiles whenever anyone looks at her. She is such a fun little baby...during the day at least (at night she is horrible, but we wont talk about that!)

Every Tuesday morning we go to story time at the Library and Corinne can't get enough. She gets so excited...I wish I could video her because it's just so cute. Last Monday night they had a family night story time with pizza and a face-painting story teller. Corinne was one of the lucky few who got chosen to get her face painted. (Actually the librarian totally loves her and totally cheated when she picked her name out of the hat). Oh well, Corinne thought she was so special. It was so fun.

The other day I asked Corinne to watch Kaitlin for me for a minute while I did something, I came back to Corinne teaching her all about the alphabet. Kaitlin is going to be one smart cookie!

Summer Vacation 2011

I really wanted Corinne to see where we got married, so we visited the Salt Lake Temple. It was really neat to see her there.

I got to visit Kate while I was in Utah. We miss the Griffiths so much! Here are the girls watching cartoons together.

Me- "Corinne, why are you so stinkin cute?"
Corinne- "Cause you're so cute and stink!"
Me- "Oh, thanks...I think."

Birth Story- very rough and missing most details

So now that it's been over six weeks, I'm starting to get over the traumatic labor and delivery I had with Kaitlin and I'm now beginning to feel like I can think about it again! In hindsight, I realize I should have gone to the hospital three days earlier than I did...I guess I will know for next time. Since my water broke with Corinne, I guess I was just waiting for it to happen again- big mistake!

On Saturday (May 14th) I knew I was starting labor because I was having major braxton hicks, feeling awful, and loosing fluid. The contractions would last for a few hours, then go away and they really didn't hurt that bad, so I didn't think I needed to go to the hospital...I was waiting for my water to brake! Anyway-without going on too much about how awful I felt for three days, I will just say this went on until Tuesday morning. On Monday, I must have really lost it because Don came home from school and took Corinne. I later came to realize he had taken her back to school and she walked around telling everyone, "momma needs a break!" (I found that out in the hospital when people from the school came to visit...I was a little embarrassed).

I was supposed to go into the hospital at 6:30am on Tuesday morning to be induced. I woke-up that morning and was having some contractions and I couldn't really tell if they were hurting or not. I started timing them and after a few of them I realized they were coming three minutes apart and really starting to hurt. I was trying to wait til 6:30, but at 4:30am, I couldn't take it anymore.

We checked into the hospital at 5:05am, waited in the waiting room for the nurse, then started walking to the room. I asked for the epidural as we were walking to the room (I knew I was at least 7cm by my pain because that's when I got the epidural with Corinne and I was hurting at least that bad!) We got into the room and without going into too much detail and about how incompetent these nurses were, I will just say they didn't know what they were doing, nor did they listen to me at all! So after asking me stupid family history and std questions for about an hour, and caring more about how to work the computer they were putting the answers into, and not realizing how much pain I was in, my contractions got closer than a minute and a half apart. I finally convinced them to let me have an epidural and to get the doctor. Well, they didn't know how to put an IV in (I realized that after they had practiced on me) so they had to call someone else in to give it, then they called in the doctor and anesthesiologist. So, the anesthesiologist didn't know what he was doing either, so they called in for back-up (after he had already practiced on me as well), but it was a little too late. The doctor finally got there and the first time she checked me I was over 9cm and ready. I needed to push so bad, but she wasn't ready because she just got there. I was literally twisting and turning the bed hurting so bad and needing to push, but she was ready by the next contraction. Two contractions, six pushes and a lot of screaming later, my sweet little Kaitlin was there. (I am skipping the details of pushing, the stitches and delivering the placenta for fear I might not use very good language and may be way too graphic...let's just say I've never been in more pain in my life!)

So, long story short, I checked into the hospital at 5:05am and Kaitlin was born at 6:42am, naturally, which I never want to do again! Kaitlin is so worth everything I went through. She is such a sweetheart. She weighed 6lbs 7oz (oddly same as Corinne) and was over 20 inches long. She came home at 5.9 pounds and is a little over 8 pounds now. She is such a blessing and we love her so much. We can't wait for the rest of our family to meet her!

Tornado

This tree went down just outside of Corinne's window. The upstairs apartments were damaged, but ours didn't get touched. This was the storm Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. They said this was caused by a small tornado. We heard the tornado alarms go off and turned on the news, when it started to reach Birmingham, we got Corinne up and all hid in the bathroom. It was a little scary. The power shut off and we heard loud wind noises and crashes but it was over quickly. I didn't expect this one because they said we would have tornadoes Wednesday night...which we did, but this one, the night before, effected us more. We are so grateful for your calls, texts, concerns and prayers. We are so blessed to be safe and still have a home. We were without power for a few days and all of our food went bad, but that was it for us. (You can click on the pictures to make them bigger).

We had a hard time finding a way out to the main road as trees were down everywhere...just to be clear, this was the storm before the big tornadoes- those hit that night.

Just a few pictures of damage in our ward, again this was the storm the night before the tornadoes. I don't have pictures of what the tornadoes did, but there are plenty on-line. Don and Corinne went to help with some clean-up in our ward. After things were more organized, Don and a lot of men from the church spent hours and hours on Saturdays and Sundays with clean-up and will continue to do so. Some areas were hit so hard it's hard to even look at. Don has seen some major devastation, especially as he drove to Tennessee for boards right after the storms. We still had church the following Sunday. It was held outside for an hour because there was no power. We even had a little girl get baptized because her whole family was in town. There were no lights and the water was freezing, but it was really neat to see!

It might have been the hardest four days of my life...but we did it. Corinne is officially out of diapers and it's so nice to have a "big girl"! She has seemed to grow up so much in the past months since she's been using the toilet. Her most frequent phrase is "I do it myself". Corinne is such a sweetheart and can't wait for her baby sister to come. She's going to be a great big sister!

Corinne was a cute little Minnie Mouse for Halloween this year. This is really the first Halloween she has actually been able to take part in. We went to the church for a carnival and Trunk-or-Treat. It was new for her, but she loved being with her cousins and playing the games. By the way, see how awesome she is at those games? That is a perfect bulls eye on the frisbee throw game. Nice work Corinne. The Trunk-or-Treat was her favorite part. She loved walking around with her little bucket and having people just drop candy in it. The heavy, heavy rain didn't even bother her one bit. If you notice the last picture, is our trunk. Mindi decorated it with her manikin heads from hair school, covered it with spider webs and put a strobe light on it. It had a pretty good overall effect. She won third place for her efforts. GO MINDI! It was a lot of fun.

Since Florida State isn't too far away from us, we got to go to the game this year. Even though BYU didn't win, we still had fun. Corinne had her first experince at a football game...she didn't quite understand she was cheering for Florida State most of the time, but she loved doing the Seminole War Chant and moved her arm up and down cheering with all the Florida State fans...they certainally got a kick out of it anyway.

So, for those of you who don't know my husband Don, he is just about the nicest person you will ever meet. He is way too nice to me most of the time. Well, when Don started dental school, we bought him three pairs of ceil-blue scrubs that were his classes designated class color- which he has to wear everyday all day at school. Now, about four years later, those three sets of scrubs are getting pretty tattered and worn- (ripped, torn, worn-out in certain areas, stained with chemicals and bodily juices...you get the idea). Anyway, about two months ago, Don came home from school and plopped himself down on the couch...I couldn't help but notice the 12-inch rip down the crotch of his scrub pants. I said in a panic..."Don, don't wear those anymore...let me fix them!" He set them on my sewing table and of course I forgot about them. The next week, the same thing happened with another pair or his scrub pants. He kindly let me know that he now had a couple of pants for me to fix and that we would have to do laundry a little more often. Well, a couple weeks later, the pants were still sitting on my table, but Don is too nice to say anything to me and didn't want to hurt my feelings, so as I left one night, he took matters into his own hands. Even though he had never used a sewing machine before, he's a pretty smart guy so he thought he could figure it out. Little did he know I had been working with some really interesting fabrics lately so I had an extremely small needle on my machine with bright pink thread hooked up. Long story short, I came home to a slightly frustrated husband who had sewn his pant leg to the crotch with pink thread that was sewn so tight it was in knots. I sat for about an hour that night laughing hysterically while trying to pick out all the pink thread- imagining what he must have looked like sewing this incredible mess. I'm happy to report after many weeks of putting it off, I've just finished fixing them! I'm sorry for taking so long Don...thanks for being so patient with me. I know you can do just about anything...and I will give you sewing lessons if you want, but for now I think you might want to stay away from my machine. Oh...and we could maybe even splurge and get you some new scrubs!

She learns a lot of her girly traits from her cousins...

and a few from her mom...she loves to paint her toenails. When her polish starts to come off a few days after we've painted them, she comes to me and shows me her toes and says "more mama, more"!

Okay, so a long time ago I got this candy bra gag gift...well, I was doing some cleaning and thought I should throw it away when Corinne got into it. I put it on her and she loved it!

This is Corinne's new "cheese". She loves to cheese for the camera. I think it's so cute.

So, she soon found out that she could eat it. I felt sorry for her because she had just gotten her tubes in that morning, so I took off her clothes and put her on a towel. It kept her busy for at least five minutes! I saved it for another time I need to occupy her time. I'm such a great mom!

We celebrated Corinne's first birthday a few weeks ago. She had a bunch of friends and cousins come to celebrate with her. Her Grandma even came down from Connecticut to celebrate. The Birthday theme was "Pink" and there was a lot of it.

Liz and Jim came down and visited for their Spring Break! It was a lot of fun to see them again and let our kids get to know each other. Aiden actually took this picture of us. He was really excited to be able to use a camera. He took about 20 pictures of us and about 10 of himself. Funny guy.

These two were so cute together. Aiden and Corinne would just hug each other and play like there was no tomorrow. I guess that is kinda what it would be like for her to have an older brother.

These two on the other hand never really hit it off too well. :) It became a battle over binkies and toys and what not. I'm sure things will only get better in the future, but I have to say it was pretty entertaining.

Birthday Party for Davis!

Daddy and Corinne got to visit with cousins for Davis' one year birthday party. Davis sure liked the whole cake thing. He just kept going and going until there was a huge continuous mess from his highchair tray up to his nose. Happy Birthday Davis!!
Corinne liked playing with the bubbles and this cute little slide. She would just climb up and down the stair. She really didn't quite have the guts to try out the slide.

We tried to get a cute picture of these three cousins together, but we couldn't get them all to cooperate at the same time. At least we got a picture with all three of them in it together.

Daddy Babysits

Okay so... Don is a very busy man. He goes to school all day, stays late in the lab, does random jobs for a little extra cash, and still manages to come home and be a great husband and father. I just have to tell on him this once...or twice. So the other day Don was watching Corinne. He decided to play some video games with some family members when Corinne came up to him with a dirty face full of chocolate...he proceded to wipe it and lick it off. He soon realized that it wasn't chocolate and not only did he forget to watch his little 11-month-old very curious and active child, but he forgot to wrap-up her poopy diaper he had changed. Unfortunatly this story didn't end there...Corinne ended up with two infected eyes that are now being treated. He feels really bad about and won't let it happen again, except tonight, that is. I found him fast asleep while Corinne watched Barney. At least he was smart enough to put her favorite show on this time! Oh and the other day I found Corinne kissing the Barney DVD cover. Our life is never boring!

This is Corinne's boyfriend Max. In this picture he was about half her age, but we figure in a few short years, (like 25) a few months won't matter!

The kids watched a movie while the grown-ups watched the game...well, okay, the boys watched the game and the girls ate and talked...but that's how it usually works, right?

New Year's in Connecticut

We were able to go up to CT right after Christmas and celebrate New Year's with my family. We had a really great time and Corinne loved all the attention! It was a short trip- we wish it could have been longer...we miss you guys!

Have I ever mentioned how Corinne LOVES the bathtub? Now that she is standing, it has become much for difficult for mommy to do her hair like she used to while Corinne was in the tub. I guess that's just another thing on my list of things to teach her. Oh well, at least she's a fast learner!

Now, I may be a little bias, but the performance of the sheep in this year's nativity scene was superb! Corinne was one of the three sheep She was an amazing actress! She came crawling out right when she was supposed to and was so adorable.

So it just so happened that the only time it snowed this year was the night before the Jingle Bell Run. It was so cold but we were ready! Don ran by himself and I pushed Corinne. I forgot his time, but he did really well, then he came backwards and ran with Corinne and I.

I don't know why we didn't take very many pictures of Thanksgiving, but we were able to celebrate Thanksgiving with Don's family. It was a lot of fun. I made my very first cheese cake- I thought it was pretty darn good! I learned a lot that's for sure.

This is Corinne and Gwenith (Don's cousin Elizabeth's little girl). They were so cute together. Corinne just loves little girls to play with.

What have I been up to?

Okay, so I'm really not one to blog about "things" or write a journal entry (although I love reading others' blog who do) but I get asked all the time now that I'm a stay-at-home mom what I do. I've thought a lot about this and here is what I've been up to recently for any of you that are interested...(if you're not, just skip this post!)

1- Taking care of the sweetest little baby in the world! I love my little Corinne so much. She is a handful...more like two handfuls but she is my little buddy and I look forward to being with her everyday.
2- Apartment hunting! Okay so we finally did it! We put a deposit down on an apartment that we will be moving into in a couple of weeks. We have been so blessed to live here for so long and have been so grateful to Don's parents, but now that I am home all day, I really need a home of my own again. I don't have any pictures, but I will post some when I do.
3- Hair! I've been doing quite a bit of hair while I've been home and I just love meeting and visiting with people and being creative. It has really helped me adjust to being at home all day.
4-Cleaning, laundry, cooking, blah blah blah... actually I really enjoy cooking and baking. Oh yeah- my friend Tammy and I entered a cake contest and got into the top five! I wish I had pictures, but I couldn't find my camera that week. Better Homes and Gardens took pictures there, so I will try to find one of our cake.
5-Exercising- okay, not really...but I've been thinking really seriously about it and I know I need to start doing it.
6- Young Women- I love my calling in the young women's program. I love the girls and the other women I work with- they've become my really good friends.
7- Being a wife! So, this one should be a little higher on the list. I love Don so much and I'm so glad that he works so hard in school for Corinne and I. He is in the clinic now and loves it. I can't believe he is almost half way through his 3rd year. He is amazing.
8- Family. Spending time with my family and talking on the phone and writing to the members who don't live close, are some of my favorite things to do. I've realize that it actually takes up a lot of my time, which I'm really grateful for. It's important for me to stay in touch with my family and I am hoping to do a better job at it. I am so blessed to have amazing sister in-laws that are so close and have become some of my best friends.
9- Couponing- I have been learning how to "coupon"! It's been really exciting learning how to save so much money. I'm just a beginner, but I'm starting to figure out how to use sales and coupons to get great deals. Hopefully I will start to understand it better.
10- Crafting! I have gotten really into doing crafts now that Corinne is a little older and will let me put her down for more than a few seconds. Here are a couple pictures of some of the things I've made recently. Some of what I've been working on will become Christmas presents, so I'm not going to show those.

Well, I'm sure I've left out a ton of things that I don't want people to know about...(like watching TV, being lazy, etc.) But I hope to improve on those. I have many things I want to do better with and many things I want to accomplish. Thanks to everyone who has been patient with me and have helped me do so many of the things I love to do. Thanks to my friends and family who live far away and still love and care for us even if we don't get to talk much. I love and miss you and staying in touch is one thing I will work harder at!

Corinne has been so patient with me as I am still pumping for her. She gets up every morning and sits there watching Dinosaur Train while I'm busy for about 45 mins. What a sweetheart.

She has learned to hold her own bottle, but sometimes forgets that she has to stay on her back or it wont work.

I don't know where she learns how to do all these faces, but I see a new one everyday.

Our Vacation to Florida!

Don was fortunate enough this year to get a Fall Break! We were so excited so we planned a little get-a-way to Destin Beach. On our way down, we stoped at Cindy and Cameron's house in Montgomery. Cindy offered to take Corinne for a few days while Don and I went by ourselves! It was our first time away from her and we missed her so much, but we had a wonderful time (and a lot of sleep). Thank you so much Cindy!
